Do I need to fuel while I’m doing a sprint triathlon?
It largely depends how long you think it’s going to take you to complete it.
Normally the body stores an hour to an hour and 15 minutes worth of energy in our regular glycogen stores.
Provided that you have eaten sensibly in the lead up to the event and taken energy on board then, then you should probably have enough.
But if you’re going to have a slightly longer day because it might be uphill or it might be your first event, then there’s absolutely no harm in taking a gel or maybe a piece of Flapjack out on the bike.
That’ll just top you up to be able to complete the rest of the course and you’ll have a fantastic time.

Fueling for a sprint triathlon
It’s important to ensure you have enough energy to complete the course.
While the body stores glycogen, longer days or uphill routes might require a little extra fuel.
Don’t be afraid to take a gel or snack on the bike to give you the energy you need to finish strong.
