Everybody gets pre-race jitters before they do a race whether you are at the front end of the pack or whether you are doing your first triathlon.
One of the best tips that you can do to calm your nerves, and this is actually something that was taught to me by a friend of mine called Dave Tune, is to ask yourself, are you going to win?
If the answer to that question is no, then what’s your problem?
If you’re not gonna win, you have nothing to be nervous about.
You’re just gonna do everything that you’ve done in training.
You’re just going for a short swim, a short bike, a short run, or a combination of that.
It’s all stuff that you’ve already done.
You don’t need to put the pressure on yourself if you’re not gonna win.
You don’t need to worry about actually racing against other people.
You’re just racing against the clock.
Just go out there and have a great time.
This is what you put your time, money, and effort into doing, and it is your hobby.
This is not something that you’re going to win some money off.
Go and enjoy it and try not to worry quite so much about where you’re coming.
