Should I have a training plan for doing Ironman?

Should I have a training plan for doing my Ironman later in the year.

The answer to that question is, well, it depends because a generic training plan is something that you can follow and it will give you a structure and then current training for you to be able to get from A to B, which is your race date.

What it won’t do is it won’t allow you to make changes when something happens at work or something goes wrong at home, and then you need to miss a session.

It won’t give you the rational response for, whoa, I can’t do my long ride this week, or I can’t do my run.

How do I cope with that?

It has its place, but it’s also very static for want of a better term.

What would be better and probably the best money you can invest in triathlon is to get a coach.

A coach will write you a bespoke individual plan and then will be there and on hand to be able to put things right when life goes wrong.

Yes, a training plan will do a job, but it’s never going to be as good as your own coach.
